MANILA, Philippines - Boysen KNOxOUT Air Cleaning Paint garners the Chemrez Green Chemistry Award in the recently concluded 2009 National Invention Contest and Exhibits organized by the Department of Science and Technology. The award, sponsored by Chemrez Technologies Inc. was recently held at the Philippine Trade and Training Center in Pasay City.

Developed by Pacific Paint (Boysen) Philippines, Boysen KNOxOUT exemplifies the principles of green chemistry. In fact, it is considered as the first air cleaning paint in the world. It contains a photo catalytic titanium dioxide which upon exposure to light, transforms ordinary water vapor to free radicals that break down nitrogen oxide (NOx) and volatile organic compounds (VOCs).

NOx or nitrogen oxides, mostly generated by vehicle emissions, are highly reactive gases that have hazardous effects on health and the environment. They form smog or ground level ozone and small particulate matter that can cause respiratory problems and lead to acid rain.

In the world’s largest air cleaning paint trial, Boysen KNOxOUT was painted on a major Metrorail station along the busiest highway in Metro Manila.
